They were visiting as part of a cultural tour organized by the Friends of the Drepung Gomang. During their visit they spent 6 days creating a sand mandala. I have always wanted to watch and photograph the creation of a sand mandala as the process is really interesting. The monks use hollow metal funnels, called a chak-pur, with a ridged section they rub another of the metal funnels on to vibrate the sand out of a small hole on the end. They can produce images of great detail and depth. Clicking on the photo will take you to a gallery of more mandala images.

I am trying to pay closer attention to the finer details of its progression. One of the things that consistently catches my eye is the emerging maple leaves, which remind me of delicate little hands. The image needs to be viewed large to get the full impact.

Currently I am trying to take the next step with my photography by selling them. I am taking the route of displaying them at local coffee shops to start. I am going to put together a whole package (picture captions, book of other photos, website, and sales info) for this. I am thinking of framing between 8 and 10 photographs for display on the walls. The difficult thing for me is figuring out what types of photos are going to sell. I am going to create several online galleries of certain styles. If anyone wants to comment when they go up then please do. What I want to know is, what would you buy?.
