Flash, Video and Realtime servers
In the past few months I have been experimenting on and off with video in Flash.
We recently purchased a portable blue/green screen setup at work. This has been teaching me a lot about everything required to do blue/green screen. This also led to me being a co-presenter of a master class at Vidfest this year. Phillip Kerman led the talk and discussed Flash 8′s new abilities to use an alpha channel and cue points in video. Ron Serna and I talked about the process of lighting and capturing blue/green screen footage. It was a good experience all around.
This portable setup is also part of an effort to increase the use of blue/green screen footage amongst students and faculty in the Digital Design program. As faculty we are going to be creating several small flash projects using alpha channel video that we think are exciting. Stay tuned for those.
I am currently advising a student on their final project which is incorporating video record live and cell phone images. The video is being record in realtime using Flash Communication Server MX 1.5. I was surprised at how easy this is to do. The image part is interesting because the project will use Flickr to process images emailed from people cell phones and the Flickr API to retrieve those images for use in Flash. All of this data is will be brought into flash through AMFPHP. Again, once it goes live I will post a link to the project here.
